Sarah Elizabeth Ward

It is with a sorrowful heart that Sarah Elizabeth Ward has returned home to the Lord on March 28, 2024 after a long illness.

Sarah was born in Centertown, Kentucky on January 30, 1940, to the late Lonnie Whitehead and Virginia (Snodgrass) Whitehead, being 1 of 6 children.

Along with her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harlon Eugene Ward; sister, Barbara (Ronnie Joe) Masters and Brother Ralph Whitehead.

Left to cherish the memory of Sarah are her sons, Kenneth (Lois) Ward and Anthony Gene Ward; grandchildren Rebekah Smith, Jasmine (Deontae) King, Megan (Matthew) Cates, Mackenzie (Stanley) Laity, and Anthony (Kara Marsh) Ward Jr; great-grandchildren, Maliki Smith, Wyatt and Maverick; siblings, Barry (Mary Ann) Whitehead, Charlotte (Sonnie) Cowgill and Gloria Herndon and many nieces and nephews that she loved very much. 

In 1960, Sarah married her husband Harlon Eugene Ward and they went on to have two sons, Kenneth Ward in 1960 and Anthony Ward in 1962. 

In their later years, Sarah and Harlon “Gus” moved to Sodus MI where they called home for over 30 years.

Sarah was a housekeeper for 25 years and then a long-time employee at several laundry mats located in Benton Harbor until her retirement.

Sarah had an amazing long life of 84 years shared with many loved ones. Her home was always filled with love and open arms to family and friends. Sarah was known for her charismatic nature and was well loved by many of her customers and clients.

Sarah will be forever missed.

Visitation for Sarah will be on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 11:00am to 1:00pm with a Funeral Service to be held at 1:00pm at Bowerman Funeral Home, 6635 E Main St. Eau Claire, MI 49111. Burial will immediately follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Sodus, MI.
