Robert Ray Cantrell

December 7, 1944 — December 21, 2024

Sodus

Bobby Ray Cantrell, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, in Sodus, Michigan. Born on December 7, 1944, in Isola, Mississippi, Bobby's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, kindness, and humor.

Bobby's early years in Isola laid a strong foundation for the man he would become. After graduating from high school and completing two years of trade school, he embarked on a career that would span decades as an iron worker in the steel construction industry. His dedication to his craft was evident in the structures he helped raise and the lasting impact he had on his colleagues and the community.

Throughout his life, Bobby's passions were as strong as the steel he worked with. He had a talent for building motors and could often be found working on hot rods. His love for the outdoors was reflected in his enthusiasm for fishing for large-mouth bass, his many peaceful afternoons spent golfing at his favorite course, Brookwood, and his many camping trips with life long friends and brothers Alan (Al) Gest and Jack (Dale) Rodgers.

Bobby faithfully and honorably served his country in the United States Army. A testament to his selflessness, sacrificial personality, and putting others first.

Bobby's legacy is carried on by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Lester Cantrell and Margie Ellen (Powell) Cantrell, and his two sisters, Helen Virginia "Ginny" Wheeler and Barbara "Kay" Thorn. He is survived by his two children, Bobbie Michelle Cantrell and Donald Eugene Davis, who will remember him as a guiding light in their lives. His three grandchildren, Sabrina Costner, Alissa Davis, and Deziree Cantrell-Pappa, and five great-grandchildren, Rodney Costner, Addie Costner, Ensley Frizell, Alora Cantrell-Miller, and Evans IV Costner, will carry forward his legacy of love and laughter.

Those who knew Bobby will remember him as a loving and kind man with a quick wit and a ready smile. His ability to find humor in life's challenges was a gift that he generously shared, lifting the spirits of all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.

Bobby's life was a journey marked by hard work, dedication to his family, and a commitment to bringing joy to others. His memory will be treasured and kept alive in the stories told by those who loved him and the lives he touched.

As we say goodbye to Bobby Ray Cantrell, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His spirit, characterized by strength and gentleness, will continue to inspire us all. Though he has left this earthly realm, his influence remains, etched in our hearts and in the memories we hold dear.

In honor of Bobby's life, his family will gather in a private ceremony to share memories, laughter, and love—the very essence of what Bobby brought to every moment. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will endure through the lives of his family and the many people he touched throughout his remarkable journey.

Rest in peace, Bobby Ray Cantrell. Your life was a beacon of love and kindness, and your memory will forever be a source of comfort and joy to those who were privileged to know you.
