Joel Carrizales, a cherished soul known for his loving nature, selfless acts, and friendly demeanor, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, in Berrien Springs, at the age of 74. Born on July 18, 1950, in McAllen, Texas to Jose Carrizales and Felicitas (Cantu) Carrizales, Joel's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, a dedicated work ethic, and a passion for the simple joys in life.
Joel's early years in Texas laid the foundation for a life characterized by resilience and a strong sense of community. His service in the National Guard was a testament to his dedication to his country, and his later career as a CNC operator at Hoffmen Industries showcased his meticulous skill and steadfast reliability. Joel's colleagues remember him not only for his professional expertise but also for his ability to brighten the workplace with his warm smile and genuine concern for others.
Beyond his professional life, Joel was a man of many interests. He had an insatiable love for dancing, often found leading a partner across the dance floor with grace and enthusiasm. His role as a food critic, albeit informal, was one he took seriously, delighting in the exploration of new cuisines and sharing his culinary adventures with friends and family. Traveling was another of Joel's passions, and he seized every opportunity to discover new places, immerse himself in different cultures, and relax on sandy beaches under the sun.
Joel's love for life was eclipsed only by his love for his family. He was a devoted husband to his first wife, Rebecca Carrizales. His recent engagement to Julie Welp brought a renewed sense of joy and companionship into his life, and together they shared many cherished moments. Joel was a proud father to his children, Scott Carrizales, Chris Scarbro, and Nicole (Marcus) Peake, and a loving figure to his step-son, Christopher (Samantha) Disterheft. Each of them benefited from his guidance, support, and the unconditional love he so freely gave. He also is survived by three of his four siblings; Sanjuana Koch, Leticia Wood, and Maricelda Villareal and his grandchildren: Arlo Peake, Julian Diamond, Jasmine Disterheft, Alexis Disterheft, Caitlyn Disterheft, and Aubree Disterheft.
Preceded in death by his parents and his brother Rogelio Carrizales.
Those who knew Joel will remember him for the selflessness with which he approached every relationship. He was a friend to many, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement. His presence was a source of comfort and happiness to those around him, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
As we bid farewell to Joel Carrizales, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the pursuit of happiness. His legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. Joel's spirit, characterized by his love for life and the joy he found in every day, will forever be remembered and cherished.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Joel Carrizales will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will forever hold a special place in the hearts of his loved ones.
