Helen M. Blighton

Helen M. Blighton, 84, of Eau Claire died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.

She was born Dec. 1, 1931, in Dowagiac, to Lester E. and Ruth L. Sherwood. She was employed with Eau Claire Public Schools for 21 years, and retired from there. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was a member at Friends in Faith in Eau Claire. On June 14, 1952, in Benton Harbor, she married Richard Blighton, who survives.

Other survivors include daughters, Leslie (Frederick) Leitz and Denise (Larry) Westerhoven; sons, Richard (Beth) Blighton and Rant (Dawn) Blighton; brothers, Eugene Sherwood and Dale Sherwood; eight grandchildren: Karah (Robert) Eaton, Broderick (Alexandra) Leitz, Gretchen (Andrew) Steinke, Lauren (Philip) Coulson, Marcie Westerhoven, Richard “Cody” Blighton, Rant Blighton and Nathan Blighton; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Varnold Sherwood, Walter “Howard” Sherwood and Donald Sherwood; and grandson, Frederick W. Leitz IV.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Bowerman Funeral Home, 6635 E. Main St., Eau Claire. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at the funeral home with the Rev. Kevin Parkins officiating. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Sodus following the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice at Home of St. Joseph. Bowerman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
