Niles

George Robert Richter, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, in Niles, Michigan. Born on December 23, 1936, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, to the late George and Beatrice (Taylor) Richter, George's life was marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering commitment to his family.

George was a proud graduate of St. Joseph High School. His work ethic and leadership skills shone brightly throughout his career at Whirlpool, where he retired as a respected supervisor. On September 4, 1971, George married the love of his life, Margaret (Bishop) Richter, and together they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and mutual devotion.

An exceptional athlete, George was naturally gifted in sports. He was particularly passionate about golf, not only playing but also sharing his love for the game as a golf instructor for many years. His athletic prowess was matched by his love for the outdoors, often spending time fishing and hunting. However, it was his role as a family man that truly defined him. George's family was paramount in his life, and he instilled in them the values of love, integrity, and kindness.

George's selfless nature was evident in the way he and his beloved wife, Margaret, gave back to their community. For many years, they brought joy and wonder to countless children as they played the roles of Mr. & Mrs. Claus. His friendly demeanor and loving spirit made him a pillar in the lives of those who knew him.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his family, including his wife, Margaret; son, Rob (Shirley) Richter; step-son, Karl (Kim) Hess; daughter, Sheri (Derrick) Davey; and two adored grandchildren; his sisters; Barb Fredericks and Marilyn Richter. George was predeceased by his daughter, Beth Bowie, and his parents, George and Beatrice Richter; and his siblings, Millie Mammina and Harry Richter.

George's life was a testament to the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Indeed, George succeeded in making a profound difference in the lives of many.

In accordance with George’s wishes cremation has taken place and his family will be remembering and celebrating his life privately.
