Dorothy Nell Whitehead

Dorothy Nell Whitehead, 80, of Watervliet, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2021 in Stevensville.

She was born Sept. 2, 1940 in McHenry, Ky., one of four children of Roana (Trail) and Arthur Pendelton Hillard. She married the love of her life, William C. Whitehead, on Aug. 9, 1958 in Benton Harbor. There were seven children born from this union.

In her younger years Dorothy worked in customer service, but her heart was found at home being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She cherished praising the Lord and had a heart of gold. She loved reading her cookbooks, swinging on her porch swing, dancing, praying for and with others, spending time with family, laughing, and always wearing a beautiful smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, friend, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was always thinking of others first. “To know her was to love her”. Her pride and joy were being in the presence of her grandchildren.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, her children: John Whitehead (Vickie), Michael Whitehead (Dawn), Theodore Whitehead (Katrina), Angela Whitehead, Mickey Whitehead (Karleen), Robin Gilson (Larry), and Anthony Clayton; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Stover; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Steven Whitehead; and siblings, Margaret Ogata and Sue Harris

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 13, at Bright Star Tabernacle, 5130 Old Pipestone Rd., Eau Claire, with visitation 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and funeral at 1 p.m. The graveside service will be at Shanghai Cemetery, Eau Claire. A Celebration of Life will be at 3 p.m. at 1770 N. M-140, Watervliet.
