Doris E. (Franz) Culbertson, 93, of Eau Claire passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph. She was the second oldest of seven children born to Stanley and Alice Franz.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior. Memorials may be made to Chapel Hill. Burial will be in Shanghai Cemetery, Eau Claire.
On May 31, 1941, Doris married Jim Culbertson, and they enjoyed 46 wonderful years together.
She worked at Voice of Music for 16 years, managed the Berrien Springs Dairy Queen for 12 years, and worked on the family farm for many years.
Doris was a joyful, steadfast member of Chapel Hill for many years. She cherished her church family. She was co-chair of funeral dinners, along with being co-chair of the annual bake sale at the Chapel Hill Arts and Crafts Show. She was a member of Shanghai Mothers’ Club, Mt. Pleasant Bayview Club, Widow Widowers, Friendship Club, and two bunco groups.
Survivors are her son, Dr. Edward (Mary) Culbertson of California; four grandchildren: Desiree Wojciechowski of Missouri, Alexsandra Vissor, Jonathan Culbertson, and Andrenia Gossard, all of California; six great-grandchildren of Missouri and California; her beloved goddaughter, Heather (Skibbe) Poole; sisters: Lois (Eugene) Akright of Eau Claire, Beverly (Claude) Orvis of Montana, and Virginia (George) Skibbe of Eau Claire; and brothers: Eldon (Bonnie) Franz of Eau Claire and Ron (Marilyn) Franz of Otsego.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; and sister, Bernice Wicker.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bowerman Funeral Home, Eau Claire.
Special thanks to Melinda, Jessica, Allyson, Fran, Sara, and Raven for the loving care they gave to Doris. Caring Circle personnel were very helpful and appreciated.
Doris will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her hard work, being an excellent cook, and her genuine love of family and friends along with God and church. In her lifetime she touched many lives. You were richly blessed to know her.
