Allen E. Heminger, 95, of Berrien Center, died Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at The Timbers of Cass County in Dowagiac.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 18, at Bowerman Funeral Home in Eau Claire, with visitation from 11:30 until service time at 1 p.m. Burial with military rites will be in Franklin Cemetery. Allen was born October 5, 1921, in Benton Harbor, the son of Clarence and Gladys (Hutchinson) Heminger. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 2nd Marine Corps Division. He was in the battles of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian. On June 3, 1950, he married Eleanor Jinkins, and they operated Stylecraft Upholstering in Berrien Center for over 60 years.
Allen raised beagles and competed in Beagle Trials since 1950, during which time he had over a dozen AKC Beagle Trial Champions. He was president of Michiana Beagle Club for several years. He also belonged to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg classic car club and the Graham Owners car club.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Eleanor; son, Michael (Becky); and daughter, Lisa (Doug) Eubanks, all of Berrien Center. Also two grandchildren, Justin Heminger of Berrien Center and Ryan Young of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; great-grandchild, Dominick Young; three sisters: Ruth Lundeen of Columbus, Ohio, Mary Betz of Benton Harbor, Kelly (Ken) Grove of Coloma.
Allen was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Ferguson Doss; and three brothers: Edward, Frank, and Martin.
